Obituary

Barbara Ann (Ferber) Loyd, 89, of Lewisburg, passed away April 28 at Mosser Nursing Home in Trexlertown, PA, after a long journey with vascular dementia. She was the beloved wife of the late M. Gibson Loyd.

Born in Linglestown, PA, Barb was the daughter of the late Sebastian and Reita (Billman) Ferber. She was a woman who lived by the power of "doing." Whether in her career at the Lewisburg Area School District - where she served as the secretary to the Superintendent and School Board - her membership in the Eastern Star, or her extensive volunteer work, Barb occupied every space with 100% effort.

Known for her sharp, intentional clothing style, Barb believed if a thing was worth wearing, it was worth coordinating. She delighted in the hunt for the perfect find, ensuring her shoes and accessories matched her outfits with a precision that was as much a part of her personality as her work ethic. Yet, as much as she loved a good shopping trip and a curated look, her true focus was never on herself. Barb was the most generous soul many people have ever known, possessing a heart so big that she would move mountains to place the needs of others above her own.

And while she was a force in her community, Barb's world centered around her family. She was a fierce advocate and loving mother to her only child, a daughter, Nikki. When Nikki's husband, Doug joined the family, Barb didn't just welcome a son-in-law, she gained a favorite companion who matched her spirit perfectly. Since 2018, Barb lived with Nikki and Doug, creating a collection of memories they will forever hold dear: tackling 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzles, lounging in the pool, tending to outside flowers, and enjoying s'mores around the firepit.

Alongside Gib, Barb taught Nikki that "family" was more than just genealogy - it is the word to use for the people you love. Barb loved her friends and chosen family and cherished every moment she spent with them in Lewisburg, in Palmyra, in the Lehigh Valley, at the NJ shore, in Virginia, and everywhere in between. She was especially fond of her family from the "Riverview Heights" neighborhood, "The Caffe," and First Baptist Church of Lewisburg.

Barb is survived by her daughter, Dr. Nicole Lynn Loyd, and her son-in-law, Dr. Douglas Brian Stairs, of Breinigsville, PA; her brother, Donald Ferber of Harrisburg; her sister, Joanne Aiello of Mechanicsburg; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by Camryn, Zachary, and Joshua Munn of Virginia, whom she loved and claimed as her grandchildren. To them, she was simply "Grandma," and she filled that role with immense pride and joy.
