Charles F.
Kehnel
May 21, 1930 — Feb 2, 2018
Charles F. Kehnel, 87, passed away Friday, February 2, at St. Luke's-Fountain Hill. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Charles and Francis (Knauss) Kehnel. A 1948 graduate of Allentown High School, Charlie played football and basketball under the legendary J. Birney Crum. He attended the National Agricultural College (now Delaware Valley University) for two years, before being drafted to serve the Army during the Korean War at Fort Knox, KY. A professional driver by trade, Charlie worked for the Morning Call, Class Janitor Supply Company, and CRW auto parts, before fully retiring in 2004. A lifelong traveler, journeyman, and tour guide, Charlie was often happiest when he was behind the wheel of a van filled with family and friends, or simply driving his beloved wife, Gloria, to the grocery store. "Good-time-Charlie" was a great prankster with a snide sense of humor, and a personality to alter a room. An avid sports fan, Charlie could often be heard on the sidelines of a Parkland High School game fiercely rooting on the Trojans, or cheering for the Yankees and Eagles from his own living room.
Survivors: Charles is survived by his daughter Amy Kehnel of Allentown, son Steve Kehnel of Pittsburgh, sister Nancy Vandergrift of Allentown, as well as three nieces and one nephew. He was pre-deceased by his wife of 41 years, Gloria E. Kehnel.
