D. E. Newberry, Jr. passed away at the age of 82 on Saturday December 14, 2013 at Cedarbrook Nursing Home in Allentown. He was the husband of Dorothy (Friend) Newberry and a son of the late De Estes and Cora Mae (Perry) Newberry.
He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Germany and in the Korean War where he was wounded in action. A truck driver and construction worker for most of his life, he lived in Alaska for 20 years where he was a pioneer of the Alaska Pipeline, helping to build the North Slope Haul Road to Prudhoe Bay, AK. Later, he was the Safety Director for all the trucks hauling 48" pipe out of Fairbanks, AK, and no lives were lost due to equipment failure during his tenure.
He realized his dream of becoming a business owner in 1985 when he and his wife Dorothy founded D's Limousine Service, which they owned and operated for 15 years. What began as a simple courier service grew to become the largest corporate transportation service in the Lehigh Valley with several sedans, limousines, vans, and buses.
Survivors: He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Orefield, his son Donald (Krystyna) and grandson Zachary of Yardley, PA, and his brother L.M. of Tucson, AZ.
Services: Graveside service, 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, December 21 at Jordan Lutheran Cemetery, 5103 Snowdrift Rd., Orefield with the Rev. Jimmy Lee Werley officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11 A.M. at Keller Funeral Homes, Inc., 1018 Church St., Fogelsville. Interment will immediately follow the service.
