Obituary

Dorla D. Hullinger, 92 years old, of Germansville, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2025 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest. She was the wife of Dr. Herbert G. Hullinger for 72 years. Born in Blockton, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Helen (East) Streebin. She attended a one room schoolhouse for grammar school and drove a Jeep at age 14 from her farmhouse to town for high school. Her first date with her husband was at the 1948 Taylor County Fair in Bedford, Iowa at age 15 where they shared their first kiss.

She worked in food service at Parkland High School for many years, as it allowed her to be home in time for her kids' return from school. Dorla was a member of Jordan Lutheran Church in Orefield. She lived a Christ-centered life. Dorla's beliefs were simply to love your fellow neighbor, to forgive others even when it was hard to do, and to embrace the Golden Rule of treating others the way one wants to be treated. She was active in Church, enjoyed Bible study and teaching Sunday School.  Dorla spent many hours visiting the elderly, delivering meals to the homebound, and inviting people into her home for holidays so they were not alone. She recycled before recycling was cool.  The back of her car was often filled with empty cans she collected from her workplace to recycle rather than allow them to be thrown into a landfill. Dorla enjoyed her community of friends whether at a picnic, the pool, church or work. She loved her garden, where she grew flowers and vegetables. She enjoyed going to the beach, baking pies and her bread was the best. Dorla always looked forward to returning home to Iowa to see family. We will all miss her kindness dearly.
