Obituary

Elaine T. Nolfa, 87 years of Country Meadows of Allentown, passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at Lehigh Valley Hospital. She was the wife of the late Dominic A. Nolfa for more than 61 years until he passed in 2021.  Born in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Edith (Johnson) Thomasch.

She graduated from Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn and from Moravian College.  Elaine had many careers over the years including a buyer at the former Hess's and as a substitute teacher in East Penn for 25 years. She was a long-time member and served in about every possible ministry of Church of the Mediator in Allentown. She was also the first Episcopalian to head up the Women's Auxiliary at the Allentown Jewish Community Center.

A loyal member of her College Sorority, Elaine maintained the alumni newsletter for decades until she lost her sight to a rare genetic disease. This led to over 33 years of service as an advocate for the blind. Even without her sight she would often be the unofficial tour guide on the weekly ride from Country Meadow through the valley asking the drive where they were and offering tidbits about the highlights on their route. She may have lost her sight, but she never lost her vision. A survivor of quintuple bypass surgery nearly 30 years ago and active member of the 'Zipper Club', Elaine was an advocate for women's heart health education, including raising the most money one year for the Heart Association charity walk.  She understood the value of service to a cause and lived by example.  A dedicated and devoted wife, and loving mother, Elaine was committed to her life-long friendships always there to lend a hand or simply listen.  She had a love of knowledge and desired to remain up to date on current events.

Survivors: Daughter, Antoinette Slagter (Matthew) of Schwenksville, PA, son, Thomas Nolfa (Donna) of Alpharetta, GA, grandchildren, Nicholas (Caroline) and Alexandra Slagter, and Eric (Marylyn) and Luke Nolfa.

A celebration of her life service will be held at The Church of the Mediator, 1620 W. Turner St. Allentown on Thursday July 13, at 10:30 AM with a reception to follow at the church.
