Obituary

Elmer R. Baer, 87years, of New Tripoli, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Twp.  He was the husband of the late Carole G. (Fay) Germick Baer to whom he had been married for 31 years. Born in Weisenberg Twp., he was a son of the late Elmer, Sr. and Polly R. (Werley) Baer.  He had previously been married to Jean Peters of Allentown for 17 years.

Elmer was born and raised on a farm in Weisenberg Twp and attended 1st and 2 nd grades in Rupp's one room schoolhouse. He graduated from S. Whitehall High School in 1948.   Elmer was a self-employed contractor in the Lehigh Valley for many years and enjoyed wood-working. He honorably served his country as a Corporal in the Army with the 505 th Operations detachment in Germany during the Korean conflict.   He was a member of the Ontelaunee Lions Club where he served as President several times and has been Treasurer since 2002. He was District Governor from 2004-2005. Elmer received the Melvin Jones Award and a Progressive Melvin Jones award from the District.  A lifetime member of Morgenland Union Church in Orefield, he served on the Consistory and was Treasurer for several years.

Survivors: Son, Thomas R. Baer and wife Chris of Stockbridge, GA; daughter, Diane M. and husband Russel Frantz of Coplay, stepdaughter, Eileen Germick of Hellertown, 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.  He was predeceased by a son, James T. Baer and a step-daughter, Stephanie Kospiah.

Services: 11:00 AM, Monday, October 9 at Morgenland Union Church, 3120 Weidasville Rd., Orefield. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 4:30 PM on Sunday, October 8 at Keller Funeral Homes, Inc., 1018 Church St., Fogelsville and on Monday, at the Church from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at Morgenland Church Cemetery.  Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.KellerFuneralHomes.com.
