Obituary

Grace E. (Kramer) Baker, 91 years old, of Allentown, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the Phoebe Allentown Home.  Born in Greenwich Township, she was the daughter of the late Chester U. and Carrie (Derr) Kramer.

She and her late husband, Mark G. Baker, met as children while living on neighboring farms in Krumsville, and became high school sweethearts.  They were married in Sherman, Texas in 1943, while he was serving in the U.S. Army, and enjoyed 30 years together until his sudden death while answering a fire call with the Cetronia Volunteer Fire Company in 1973.  For 44 years, she has kept his memory close to her heart.

Grace had worked for Kraft Foods in Fogelsville from its opening until her retirement in 1982. Prior to that, she worked as a seamstress in Allentown for many years. In 1955, she had graduated as a practical nurse from the Bryan Nursing School in Allentown. She was also a proud 1943 graduate of Kutztown High School.

Grace was a member of the Cetronia Senior Citizens and the Mt. Zion Senior Friends.  Formerly, she had been a member of the Kutztown Lioness, the New Temple chapter of Eastern Star, and a volunteer at Lehigh Valley Hospital.  Many decades ago, she had been one of the early ambulance attendants for Cetronia Volunteer Ambulance Corps.  In addition, Grace was a long-standing member of Cedar United Church of Christ in Cetronia.  She enjoyed gardening, travel, music, and reading, but above all, she loved and cared for children.

Survivors: Grace is survived by her daughter, Virginia G., wife of Raymond B. Willcox of Allentown; son, David M. Baker and wife Christine Petraglia of Southwick, MA; brother, Paul C. Kramer and his wife Betty of Coplay; 3 grandchildren: Thomas J. Willcox and wife Jan, Stephen M. Baker, and Jessica M. Baker; and 2 great grandchildren: John P. and Emily J.
