Obituary

Harlan R. Wessner, 86, of New Tripoli, passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Willow Brook Nursing and Rehab in Kutztown. He was the husband of Barbara A. (Merkle) Wessner for 64 years this past April. Born in Berks County, he was the son of the late Walter and Mildred (Kunkle) Wessner.

He became a self-employed butcher after working many years for Peters Bros. Meat Market and was a farmer in New Tripoli and Lenhartsville most of his life. Harlan was a member of Christ's Church at Lowhill in New Tripoli. He grew up showing Ayshires at fairs and then became a dedicated 4-H leader and later becoming Assistant Superintendent of the livestock at the Allentown Fair in addition to helping with the livestock at the Schnecksville Fair.  He showed Landrace and Poland China bred gilts at the Pa. Farm Show with the family for many years.  He was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone who needed it.

Survivors: wife, Barbara, children, Tim Wessner (Jane) of New Tripoli, Cheryl Bond (Dale) of Hamburg, Bonnie Gonzalez (Danny) of Mertztown, and Stephen Wessner (Anna) of New Tripoli; 10 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by siblings, Lenore and Russell.
