Harold M.
Schantz
Nov 28, 1935 — May 27, 2018
Harold M. Schantz passed away unexpectedly on his farm on May 27, 2018 at the age of 82. He had been battling coronary disease and Parkinson's. He was born to Louis M. and Jeannette E. (Dorwart) Schantz on November 28, 1935. After graduating from Parkland High School, he lived and worked on the family farm, Schantz Orchards, in Orefield. Upon the passing of his father, Harold took over ownership of the orchard with his brother Louis. The brothers ran the orchard until 1989 , when they sold the property. Harold subsequently purchased and operated Spring Valley Farm in Fogelsville. He fully enjoyed living and working on his farm and took great pride and joy in producing quality fruit. Harold was known for being a wealth of knowledge about farming and was always helpful and friendly towards those who took an interest in the craft of fruit growing. He traveled and explored places with his family as far away as Hawaii but was always anxious to return to his home and the orchard. Harold always enjoyed working with his hands, with hobbies which included wood and metalworking, model railroading, and building plastic models. Over the years he cultivated numerous lifelong friends, and he will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. He made his home and farm the favorite place for his children and grandchildren to visit, and they are thankful for every moment spent with him.
"Thank you, Dad, for your example of hard work, deep dedication and honesty, the wonderful start to our lives that you provided us, and for everything you gave us in later years."
Survivors: Harold is survived by his wife Susan; his three children, Richard A. Schantz and his wife, Linda, of Woodbridge, VA, Christine A. Schantz of San Anselmo, CA, and Stephen A. Schantz of Fogelsville; his brother Louis and wife Lucille of Allentown; and his two granddaughters, Carolyn LaHorgue in Los Angeles and Kate LaHorgue in Oxford, UK, both daughters of Christine.
