Harriett H. Munson of Canton, NY died on November 3, 2018 at The Phoebe Home in Allentown, PA. Born July 27, 1918 in Avon, Illinois to Edna (Case) and Madison R. Hunter. Harriett attended grade school and high school in Avon. She was a graduate of Knox College Conservatory of Music in Galesburg, Illinois, where she was a member of the music and drama fraternity, Phi Beta, and the sorority Pi Beta Phi. She married fellow student J. Kenneth Munson December 21, 1939 in Rochester, NY, where Kenneth was studying for his master's degree in musicology at the Eastman School of Music.
In 1941 the couple moved to Canton, where Kenneth served as chair of the Music Department at St. Lawrence University until his retirement in 1980. In addition to raising four children, Harriett held several positions, including organist at the Canton Presbyterian Church, church secretary for the Universalist Church, and departmental secretary at the Griffiths Arts Center of SLU. Harriett enjoyed attending concerts, reading, knitting, and travel, especially visits to her home town of Avon, IL and family trips to North Carolina's Outer Banks.
After Kenneth's death in 1986, Harriett continued to live in Canton. In 1999 she moved to a new facility in Canton, Partridge Knoll Retirement Center. In 2007 she moved to Allentown, PA to live near her oldest daughter, Christina, and resided there for the last twelve years of her life.
Survivors: Harriett is survived by her four children, Christina Schmidt and her husband, Henry, of Allentown, PA; Jane Ann Munson and her husband, Sydney Lavigne, of Concord, NH; Sara Rhoten and her husband Michael, of Westminster, MD; and John Munson and his wife Cathy Munson-Klein, of Albuquerque, NM; seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
