James Anthony passed away on Saturday, April 1st, at age 78, after a long struggle with lung disease. He was born on August 29th, 1938 in Wilkes Barre, PA to Otto and Elizabeth Funke, and was the 3rd of 4 children. James grew up in Lancaster and graduated from McCaskey High School. He received his Bachelors in Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Lafayette College and later earned his Master's Degree in Engineering Management from George Washington University.
Jim and his family lived in Allentown, Roanoke Virginia, Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and Chattanooga Tennessee, before returning to live and work in the Lehigh Valley 15 years ago. He was an expert in machinery used in the mining and shipping industries, and his business trips took him to many countries around the globe, including China, South Africa, Finland, Brazil, and Chile. Jim enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hiker, cyclist, and sailor. He and Mary Ann enjoyed travel and visited India, Costa Rica, St. Maarten, and many countries in Europe.
Survivors: Jim was a devoted sibling, husband, father and grandfather, and he is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Anthony, Daughters and their spouses Lisa Anthony Midyette and Buxton Midyette of New York City and Trish Anthony Grace and Stewart Grace of Sterling VA. His 5 grand-daughters were the light of his life: Ellie and Zora Grace, Mary B, Byerly and India Midyette. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Jo Duschl of Wilmington DE, and brothers Otto and Richard Funke, both of Lancaster.
Service: A visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 4 from 6:30 to 7:45 P.M. at Keller Funeral Home, 1018 Church St., Fogelsville. Immediately following the visitation, the family will share remembrances. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.KellerFuneralHomes.com .
