John B. "Jack" Hemmis, 82 years, of Orefield passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at home.  He was the husband of Joanne L. (Carter) Hemmis for 60 years last July.  Born in Morrisdale, PA he was the son of the late Agnes Miller.

He was a toolmaker for the former Western Electric Co., the former AT&T Co., which then became Lucent Technologies.  Jack retired from Lucent after 44 and ½ years in January of 2000.  He held various positions with Local #1522 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.  Jack was a member of the American Legion Post 576 in Allentown and served in the United States Naval Reserves from 1952 to 1962.  He served on the Advisory Board for Lehigh County Vocational School, was on the Board of Directors for both the Lehigh County United Way and Senior Citizens of Lehigh County, and was the Vice President of the Lehigh Northampton Labor Council for many years.  Jack was a member of the Emmaus Masonic Lodge 792 F.&A.M. where he served as past Master twice.  He was a 32 ^nd Degree Mason with Lehigh Consistory, Allentown.  Jack loved spending time outdoors hunting and fishing, and spending time at his cabin.   He was a member of Jordan Lutheran Church in Orefield.

Survivors: wife, Joanne, son Scott and wife Tammy of Slatington, daughter Denise Klinefelter and husband Randy of Allentown, grandchildren, Kaitlin and Jacob Hemmis and Lyndsey McGrevy and husband Brendan and Jon Klinefelter, great granddaughter, Madison.
