Lucille F. "Lucy" Gressley, 68 years, passed away peacefully on her family's farm in Maxatawny, on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, with her husband Richard by her side. Richard D. Gressley and Lucille were married on June 3, 1978 at Weisenberg Lutheran Church. She was a loving mother to Samantha Queman (John) and grandmother to Sidney Queman. Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of Irene (Beihl) Kern of Maxatawny and the late Lee Kern.
She graduated from Kutztown High School in 1973. Lucille worked for the Northwestern Lehigh School District in the cafeteria and as a school bus driver before retiring in 2015 after 31 years. She was also a baker and cake decorator and was a cooking and farming demonstrator at the Kutztown Folk Festival for 45 years. Lucille was a former member of the Seipstown Grange, a life member of Weisenberg/Lowhill Historical Society and a member of Weisenberg Lutheran Church in New Tripoli, where she sang on the choir, played in the Sunday School Orchestra, sang in the "Heavenly Harmony Quartet", and was the Handbell Director which she was recognized in May for 30 years of Service. Lucy was also a member of Lighthouse Community Church, Lyons.
Lucy was an accomplished singer and musician playing flute, guitar, drums and keyboard. She along with Rich and lifelong friend Curt Daub, formed the band "Country Express", performing over 18 years throughout Berks, Lehigh and Lancaster Countys. She enjoyed planning vacations, baking, and quilting and sewing with her granddaughter Sidney.
Other survivors of Lucille's are her aunts, Doris (Kern) Weiser and Evelyn (Kern) Kemp both of Topton, her cousins, Wanda (Kemp) Moser, Dean and Bruce DeLong, David Kemp, and Joan Biehl. Also, many nieces and nephews. Along with her father, Lee, she was predeceased by maternal grandparents, Amos and Annie (Hoch) Biehl and paternal grandparents, Charles and Marguerite (Ziegler) Kern.
A Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 19 at Weisenberg Lutheran Church, 7645 Weisenberg Church Rd, New Tripoli. There will be no visitation.
