Obituary

Lucy Jane (Rupp) Sterner, 68, passed away at her home in Hancock, Md., on Saturday, April 22, 2017.  Born Jan. 22, 1949, in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Lillian Rupp.  Lucy graduated from Northwestern Lehigh High School in New Tripoli, in 1966, and Hood College in Frederick, Md., with a Bachelor of Arts in secondary education and English, in 1970.  She was an English teacher at Southern Fulton High School until her retirement. She also held the position of assistant girls' basketball coach at the school for 20 years.  A lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of America, Lucy served as a summer camp director for several years at Camp Mosey Wood in the Poconos, and then at Camp Yankee Trails in Stafford Springs, Conn. She enjoyed camping immensely and made several lifelong friends with whom she enjoyed camping.

An avid reader, board-game player and animal advocate, Lucy loved her pets and hummingbirds, and truly enjoyed a great game of backgammon or Skip-Bo, just as her mother did.  Lucy enjoyed traveling, family holidays, (even though she could never win the Easter paper hunt), and motorcycle rides. She just returned recently from her dream vacation in Hawaii with her sister and her closest friends.

Survivors: Lucy is survived by her daughter, Bethany Sterner-King and husband, Garret, of Washington, D.C.; and her son, Jordan and fiancee, Melissa Darmody, of Catonsville, Md., her sister, Diane Cappa and husband, Rob, of Oley; also her companion, Misty Clatterbuck; and her close friends, Jill and Dan Delaney. She also had two nieces; one nephew; three grand-nieces; and one grandson on the way.

Services: There will be a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at Morgenland Church, 3120 Weidasville Rd., Orefield.  Funeral will take place at 11 a.m. in the Church with the Rev. Sally Zelker officiating.  Interment, Church Cemetery.  Arrangements by Keller Funeral Homes, Inc., Fogelsville.  Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.KellerFuneralHomes.com .
