Obituary

Mae D. Bittner, age 94, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021. She was born to Clarence and Minnie (Leiby) Smith in Weisenberg Township. In her teen years, she worked two jobs at the Stines Corner Hotel and as a telephone operator with dreams of becoming a nurse. Her dreams changed after she went on her first date with Clark Bittner, whom she married and raised two sons with, Richard and Larry, two of her greatest joys in life. Helping her children and grandchildren was at the top of her list of favorite things to do. It is an understatement to say she loved to bake and share with everyone from family to neighbors to church. She would often ask what pie or cake you wanted and just like that it was made. In addition to baking, she enjoyed working. The farm was her life, driving tractors and caring for the livestock. If she was not on the farm, you could find her at Frieden's Lutheran Church in Stony Run where she was a member for more than 60 years as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, council member, volunteer and most importantly, a church social "baker".  She cared deeply about everyone in her life and believed caring, forgiving, and praying for peace in the world was the best advice a person could follow to live a fulfilling life. She simply was wonderful.

She is survived by her son, Richard, and wife, Millyann, their son, Jack and wife, Amanda and their daughter, Amanda and fiancé, Steven Kozlowski; and son, Larry and his wife, Pat, their daughter Angela and husband, Andrew Perich, their son Aaron and wife Caley, and their son Seth and wife Kelley, and 5 great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her husband, Clark, sisters, Mary Phillips and Anna Mae Gruber, and brother, Forrest Smith.
