Marian H.
Johnson
Nov 11, 1933 — Sep 15, 2023
Marian Johnson (nee Madtes), of New Tripoli and Orefield, passed peacefully in her sleep on Friday, September 15, 2023 to enter Glory. She was born on November 11, 1933 in Kutztown, PA to the late Clayton and M. Evelyn (Snyder) Madtes.
When Marian was a young child, she and her family moved to her mother's family homestead and farm. She went on to graduate from Slatington High School, and thereafter went to work for Western Electric as well as her continued support of the family business at the Allentown Farmers Market. On November 11, 1961, Marian and Arthur Johnson were joined in marriage. They were devoted to one another and the family they raised together. Survivors: She is survived by her daughter, Susan Bravo (David); son, Peter (Jo); her granddaughters Libby and Evelyn; her grandsons, William, Eli and Arthur; and her stepdaughter Jill Plummer (Sam). She also has many nieces and nephews and extended family members to whom she showed such great care and kindness. She was the loving sister to the late Paul, Carl, and LaMar. She is survived by her brother Willard.
Marian led a gentle, kind, and generous life with love that came from a deep and abiding Faith. She was a longtime member of the Bethany United Methodist Church, and for decades served the Church by teaching Sunday School and Bible Camp. Marian loved gardening, especially the flowers that she grew with her mother. Many will remember the beautiful flower patch along the road near their home. She enjoyed cooking but relished in satisfying the sweet tooths of Artie and the family with all sorts of cookies and cakes. Marian loved to travel and to learn about other people and places. Marian and her family braved the challenges that dementia brought to them in her last years.
