Obituary

Mary Anna Phillips, born in Weisenberg Township and lifelong resident of Stines Corner, died on June 14, 2013, at Cedarbrook Nursing Home at the age of 91. Mary was the daughter of the late Clarence and Minnie Smith. She was the wife of the late William S. Phillips.

Mary graduated from Camps One Room School House in 1936. She worked as a telephone operator at the Kutztown Telephone Exchange. She and her husband later owned and operated the Wm. S. Phillips Hardware Store in Stines Corner for 45 years. Mary served as president of the Claussville Garden Club for several years. Throughout her life, she was dedicated to serving God. She was a member of Ziegels Lutheran Congregation where she sang on the choir, taught Sunday school for over 40 years and was the first woman to serve on their Church Council. She was an avid Phillies fan, never missing the opportunity to listen to the games on her radio. She also loved collecting a variety of antiques, flower and vegetable gardening, and watching birds. Mary was devoted to her family and friends.

Survivors: She is survived by daughter, Doris, wife of Thomas Brunner; son, Robert Phillips; son, Donald Phillips and his wife, Sharon and daughter-in-law, Alida Phillips. Mary is also survived by seven grandchildren: Jennifer Phillips, Meredith Peters, Patti Mangold, Wendy Nguyen, Marci Nagle, Sarah Phillips and David Phillips. She also had 10 great-grandchildren. In addition, Mary is survived by brother, Forrest Smith; sister, Mae Bittner; sister-in-law, Mildred Lucas. Mary was predeceased by son, William and sister, Anna Mae Gruber, wife of Ralph Gruber. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by all her family and all those who knew her.

Services: 2:00 PM, Sunday, June 23 at Ziegels Union Church, 9990 Ziegels Church Road, Breinigsville. Calling hours will be from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Interment Church Cemetery. Arrangements by Keller Funeral Homes, Inc., Fogelsville.
