Ralph W. Zettlemoyer, 84 years, of Breinigsville, formerly of Fogelsville, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2015 in South Whitehall Twp. He was the loving husband of Patricia A. (Haas) Zettlemoyer for 34 years this past October. Born in Schnecksville, he was a son of the late Walter R. and Minnie M. (Frey) Zettlemoyer.
He founded the Ralph W. Zettlemoyer Auction Co., in 1955 and was actively involved with the business until 2012. He farmed many acres and raised livestock and horses in Lynn and Weisenberg Townships until having his farm auction in 1986. Ralph was a Weisenberg Township Supervisor for 18 years, also serving as Chairman of the Board during that time. He auctioned livestock at the Leesport Farmers Market every Wednesday for 50 years and was an auctioneer at the Kutztown Produce Market for 20 years. Ralph was a member of the Pennsylvania Auctioneers' Assoc. where he served as President for two years and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 1994. He was a member of the National Auctioneer's Assoc. where he served as a director for three years and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 1999. He conducted many auctions for numerous non-profit organizations including Lehigh and Northampton Counties' 4-H Clubs and loved working with the children involved in the clubs. Ralph was a founding member of the Allentown West Rotary Club which was started in 1962, where he served as President, Club Auctioneer, Club Leader and Spirited Rotarian. He had perfect attendance for 49 years and received the Paul Harris Fellow award in 1980. Ralph was the Habtman (head man) of the Lechaw Dahl Deitche Fersommling, a Pennsylvania German Group formed to preserve the PA German Dialect and delivered messages in the dialect at PA German Church services, banquets and other functions. He was a founding member of the Weisenberg Lowhill Historical Society and served as a trustee until his health no longer allowed. Ralph was a member of the Lehigh Lodge #326, a 32 nd Degree Mason with the Lehigh Consistory and the Rajah Shriners. Because of his great love for horses, he joined the Mounted Patrol Unit of Rajah and traveled with them across the United States in parades and competitions with other Shriners. He served as captain for two years and was actively involved with fundraising activities for the Children's Shriners Hospital. He was the Silver Scimitar Honoree in 2002. Ralph was a member of Knights of the Golden Eagle, New Tripoli, and a member of the Antique Tractor Club. He was a former member of Christ's Church at Lowhill where he served on Church council since the age of 18, served as President for many years, and was an Edler of the Church. He was President of the Cemetery Assoc. and sang on the Church choir for 55 years. Ralph was a former member of Summer Harmony, a men's singing group. He was a member of Ziegels Lutheran Church in Breinigsville.
Survivors: wife, Patricia, daughters: Marlene R. wife of Mark Ritter of Fogelsville, Lori R. Brawn and companion Terry Oplinger of Fogelsville, and Lonnie S. Damiano and companion Michael Bowers of Breinigsville, son, Sherwood D. and wife Debra of Fogelsville, sister, Norma, wife of Donald Breininger of New Tripoli, grandchildren, Amy, Eric, Jamie, Megan, R. Thomas, Nicholas, and Alexis, 7 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and close friends, Keith and Ronda Koepke. He was predeceased by his first wife, Irma L. (Rex) Zettlemoyer and a brother Stanley O.
Services: 11 A.M. on Monday, May 11 at Ziegels Union Church, 9990 Ziegels Church Road, Breinigsville with the Rev. Bruce D. MacLaughlin officiating. Visitation will be, Sunday, May 10 from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. at Keller Funeral Homes, Inc., 1018 Church St., Fogelsville, with Masonic Services at 8:45 P.M. Another visitation will be on Monday, from 9:30 to 10:45 A.M. in the Church. Interment will be at Fogelsville Union Cemetery.
