Robert W. Smith, Jr., 89 years, of New Tripoli, passed away September 30, 2013 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Twp. He was the husband of Christine C. (Kuhnsman-Mantz) Smith for 42 years last August. Born in Lynn Twp. he was a son of the late Robert W. and Pauline Y. (Kistler) Smith.

He was a rural letter carrier in New Tripoli from 1965 to 1980 and then was a school bus driver for the Northwestern Lehigh School District from 1980 to 1988. Robert was Past President of the Ontelaunee Lions Club. He was a member of St. Peter's Church in Lynnville. Robert honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corp from 1947 to 1954 serving overseas in the Okinawa Operations and the Occupation of Japan. He was awarded the Air Medal for Meritorious Achievement in aerial flights during the Korean War. He was a member of VFW Post 8344 and the Slatington American Legion.

Survivors: Wife, son, William R. of Allentown, daughters; Janice E. of North Catasauqua, Deborah J., wife of Tony Salvatore of New Tripoli, and Dianne, wife of C. John Yocum of Trexlertown, sister, Barbara L., wife of Willard Kressley of Orefield, grandchildren; Sherri McGimpsey and Christopher Yocum, three great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Alfred E. Smith.

Services: 11 A.M., Friday, October 4 at Keller Funeral Homes, Inc., 6776 Madison St., New Tripoli with the Rev. Kevin E. Fruchtl officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 A.M. Interment will be at Jerusalem Union Cemetery in Stony Run.
