Obituary

Sylvia M. Evans, 82 years of Orefield, passed away January 6, 2013 at Lehigh Valley Hospital Inpatient Hospice Unit, Allentown. She was the widow of John F. Evans, Sr. Born in Washington, D.C., she was a daughter of the late Charles O. and Leah (Money) Jarrell.

Sylvia was a Registered Nurse for 57 years. From 1950 to 1954 she worked at the Regional Memorial Hospital in Danville, VA. After moving to Orefield, Sylvia was a labor and delivery nurse at the former Allentown General Hospital for many years and later at Cedarbrook Nursing Home until her retirement. She was a member of Jordan Lutheran Church where she sang on the Choir, and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Sylvia volunteered with various organizations around the area including the Girl Scouts. She enjoyed skiing, bicycling, swimming, birdwatching, cooking, baking and had a deep love of flowers.

Survivors: Son, John F., Jr. at home, daughters; Sylvia A. Radvansky of Schnecksville, Catherine H., wife of Mark Dufour of Macungie, Caroline G., wife of Richard Simock of Neffs, son-in law Michael Radvansky of Schnecksville, brother Vic Serfass of Glen Burnie, MD, sisters; Janet Bartley and Joanne Denshak of Maryland, grandchildren, Lauren and Caroline Radvansky and Evan and Dylan Dufour, nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service: 11 AM Friday, January 11 at Jordan Lutheran Church, 5103 Snowdrift Rd., Orefield with the Rev. Herbert H. Michel, D.D. officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 AM in the Church. Interment, Church Cemetery. Arrangements by Keller Funeral Homes, Inc., Fogelsville.
