Obituary

Viola M. Wert, 108, passed peacefully to heaven on April 3, 2017.  Born on Feb. 11, 1909, in Lehighton, she was the daughter of the late Atty. Wilson A. and H. Clorinda (DeFrehn) Wert. Viola lived most of her life in Lynnville on the family homestead.

She graduated in 1926 from William Allen High School.  She attended Shippensburg Normal School, earning her teaching certificate in 1928.  In 1943, she earned her Bachelor's Degree from Kutztown, and attained her Master's Degree and Principal Certification from Temple University in 1955, and qualified as an elementary supervisor.

She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Honor Society, and was active in the Parkland and Emmaus Garden Clubs.  Viola was proud of her gladiolus and pressed flowers that she made into notecards.

She was very involved in her church, first at Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Allentown, and then at St. Peter's UCC, Lynnville.

At the age of 95, she wrote "A Village Called Lynnville", about her life and the place that she called home.  She also was published in the former senator John Edwards' book, "HOME the Blueprints of our Lives".

Always providing a home to any stray cat, she leaves behind her beloved Snowball, BlueEye, and Freckles.
